Deglaciation and Shell Human Rights Trial Mysteriously (?) Delayed Oh, and Did We Mention The Plague??? and More for Friday, June 5, 2009

Mount Rainier and Carbon Glacier image licensed under Creative Commons by brewbooks

We're in for it now. The glaciers will likely melt away and be gone by this time next year. So we hope you're enjoying a cool, wet summer, while you still can? Do you live in a region that depends on glaciers for fresh water? Don't count on it. We're betting on desalination...

Oh, and why does the case of human rights abuse against Shell keep mysteriously getting delayed??? Is a payoff or some other action involved here? When will we hear the truth about the hanging death of Ken Saro-Wiwa? And here's a topic we did not want to discuss...the fact that the wise'crackin' Latina remarks by Sotomayor just won't get away. They just keep sticking to her. We deeply wished to avoid this controversy, but (like the death of Saro-Wiwa, deglaciation and so on) some things just won't go away... Like...the plague! It just won't go away either! Yipes! Does anybody else recall The Black Death? Oh, that was a lot of fun....NOT!!!

Oh, and if that's not enough...we predict that by this time next year, we'll see the Atlantic Ocean move right up Chesapeake Bay, the Potomac and make a new shoreline right in front of the White House. Yes, its alarming. You should be alarmed. How do you like them apples, Mr. Obama?

The Tragedy that is Dana Rohrabacher vs. the Promise that is Paul Ryan and More for Wednesday, May 20, 2009 (2nd posting for this date)

"WI: Rep. Ryan and Bruce Barr of IBT" image licensed under Creative Commons by aflcio2008

Yesterday, we hypothesized the potential (but unlikely) formation of a joint Israel-Palestine state and have a little bit more to say about it. In light of the successful Iran missile test-launch , wouldn't there be some advantage to the formation of a joint Palestine and Israel state? Would Iran dare attack such a state with nuclear weapons? Would not the rest of the Arabic and Muslim world howl in outrage if such an attack were to take place? We think they would...

A little bit on the "up-and-coming" US Rep Paul Ryan who appeared on MSNBC's "Morning Joe". The man gave a very smart and not-at-all boring analysis and assessment regarding the facts and data needed in developing a comprehensive US health care plan. Joe and crew instantly identified Mr. Ryan as an "up-and-coming" star in the Republican Party. Even though we were caught off guard by his "unexpected appearance" on this morning show, we think they are right. Our senior editor (who is a registered Democrat) is thinking of a sidebar link to Mr. Ryan's official website.

The tragedy that is Dana Rohrabacher. We witnessed Mr. Rohrabacher's arguments against global warming and climate change and putting a cap on gaseous emissions (Hardball with Chris Matthews on MSNBC). To paraphrase that lemonade commercial, "Dana, Dana, Dana. Whooot!". Mr. Rohrabacher made the rather ridiculous argument against temperature shifts on our planet (due to global warming) are comparable (???) by/to comparing them to temperature shifts on other planets (e.g., specifically Mars and Jupiter...). We have some data for Mr. R.. A Wolfram Alpha query gave us a surface temperature range of 12°C to 22°C (284° K to 297° K and/or 50°F to 76°F) for our home planet. We know the range is much wider and are making further inquiries and adjustments to the same to the search engine...

Now, for Mars, the results were - 91°C to - 3°C ( 181° K to 271°K and/or - 134°F to 30° C), oh yes, that seems almost livable!!! For Jupiter, we have to combine the Wolfram Alpha data (a range was not given to our query - perhaps because Jupiter has no surface) with the Nasa web page on Jupiter. The results were - 108° C to - 148° C ( - 163° F to - 234°F, sorry we didn't bother with degrees Kelvin here...). Those temperatures are not livable - at least not under our current scientific definitions and understanding.

Now Mr. R. may be very smart, but the comparisons just aren't fair nor scientific. Mr. R. would have done well to have presented his hard data during his argument (following the example of another Republican, Mr. Paul Ryan, above) but he did not. First of all - he is comparing our planet with planets that are respectively 166% more distant from the Sun (Mars) and about 545% more distant from the Sun (Jupiter). And, second - their atmospheres and environments (Mars and Jupiter) are completely different from ours. (Click on the hyperlinks to more data from Wolfram Alpha on this topic...).

Now we know Mr. Rohrabacher is a degreed individual, but we don't think he has a degree in atmospheric sciences. (Our apologies in advance if he does). Hey, how about it Mr. R.? Thinking of taking a few years off to further your education? We could all benefit from it. It would have been a great sucker coup if the politically brilliant Mr. Matthews could have presented these data points out of hand at the time...

That takes us to the Michael Steele speech. Could he, too, benefit from a little more education? Is that the real issue with the popularity problem with the Republican party? Messrs. Steele, Rohrabacher, Gingrich and their kind are all very highly intelligent people. Like Mr. Ryan, could they benefit from emphasizing more on the Big E vs. the Big I? We certainly hope so - we think we could all benefit.

Our Passions to Radio Shack, Passions About US Economy and More Public Passions for Wednesday, April 29, 2009

"7345 - Moscow - Bolotnaya Proshad - Children are the victims of adults' vices - Poverty " image licensed under Creative Commons by thisisbossi

OK, we've decreased our content, but our passions for our country and other issues seem to be growing. But, we want to say that we view these as our passions and not our grievances, complaints, woes and so on. We are trying to stay positive about the course of this nation and its inhabitants.

The falling economy, the pandemic, the killings in Mexico, waterboarding, torture do continue to be our passions and we are hoping that these things can be reversed. And soon, but it doesn't seem too likely. Some of these things are, of course, irreversible. Like the horrific loss of life in Mexico and the Narcowar. We are hoping that the killings can be slowed - if not stopped altogether. Mexico has enough problems with the influenza outbreak, poverty, the recent earthquake and the like. We share our passion for Mexico for one of our friends who has recently come to stay here in the USA. He has grandparents and other loved ones in Mexico - and we share his passions and concerns for them. If you are reading this, and you also have loved ones in Mexico, we share your passions and concerns for them also. If you have any reason to contact us regarding this, please feel free to do so.

We are very passionate about the political move by the enigmatic Senator Arlen Specter of yesterday. We fully realize that there are multiple political calculations (we call them specterlations) on all sides of this move. What we don't understand was the headlining of the link Obama welcomes Specter to Democratic Party and not the original story Veteran GOP Sen. Specter switches parties on MSNBC.com. Why is MSNBC (or NBC) so conspicuous at using the speculative (?) device Reductio ad Obamum? Do all roads lead to President Obama - has he truly become the Alpha and the Omega in the eyes of MSNBC/NBC? Or, have they become truly desperate?

Witness the desperate challenge by Keith Olbermann to Sean Hannity? We like Keith and Sean, but why press the waterboarding argument to such extremes? It is immoral and unethical for both to even consider using the technique of waterboarding on the other, even if its to demonstrate the fact that it is a form of torture - or not. We quote Wikipedia "Waterboarding is a form of torture...". Therefore, it is not only immoral and unethical to suggest the practice of it for this purpose, it is also illegal. We ask that Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Hannity cease and desist from this ridiculous distraction, even though we recognize their passion for it. We have ceased and desisted from watching their programs out of our passion for the abandonment of such a topic.

We are still holding out our hopes that the flu Pandemic just won't become such. If it truly were a Pandemic, we expected to have a thousand fatalities by today. Ten thousand next week. And a million or more after that. It just doesn't seem to be going to such extremes. But, we keep making fervent, frightened prayers that it doesn't go that way. As we mentioned previously, our senior editor lost an aunt (actually, she was a great-grandaunt) in the 1918 influenza pandemic.

Speaking of our senior editor, he too has been crushed by this economy. He has lost his passion for his own recovery from his own economic strife and has just about lost all hope. But, we are passionate for his recovery - even though he his stricken ill, grown weak and trodden under bone-crushing poverty, living well below the suggested $ 21,200/limit for a family of 4 suggested by those in authority. Which leads to our passion about the Radio Shack employee assaulting a customer. Our editors would never assault a customer, yet Radio Shack finds us unfit for employment. We are very passionate about the hiring of non-violent personnel. We urge you to contact them in the hope we can get them to hire more prudently.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/04/29/ap/strange/main4976998.shtml?tag=main_home_storiesBySection

We have many issues re. this assault:

1) Since when is it policy for Radio Shack to assault customers over a return?
2) WE have never assaulted a customer over a return, yet we can't even get a return phone call from Radio Shack for our job application. Why is this?
3) Why would Radio Shack prefer to hire violent offenders over non-violent personnel? We can't understand this.
4) Please do respond to these inquiries as we will be posting them on the internet.
Thank You.
