Gating Dr. Gates and More for Wednesday, July 22, 2009

We define it as "Gating" - in honor of Dr. Gates and with some reference to Gated Community. We're not even sure if Dr. Gates lives in a gated community. We hope he is thinking of moving to a location with more friendly neighbors. No, we don't think it a humorous term, not even slightly. We think it was/is a travesty and should be publicly and legally addressed. If anything, we do expect Dr. Gates to sue the Cambridge police department. Not so much for the money, but for justice. Justice for himself, justice for diversity and justice for everybody. Not so much to punish the officers involved, but to curtail the practice of 'racial profiling' and the like.

We think it is a case he would - and should - win. If he doesn't want the money, he should consider donating it to his favorite charity, group, fund or otherwise. Perhaps, he doesn't think it is worth the time. We think it is. We would be more than happy to stand in for him in any potential lawsuit such as this one. Not that we could give him any legal representation, understand.

Because? Because it is not a funny topic. One of our editors has had encountered similar brushes with the law. And it has cost him dearly. It has cost him his job. It has cost him his livelihood and income. And most all, it has cost him his position in society and his home. Yes, he has become homeless and poverty-stricken because of a similar situation with 'law enforcement'. We expect to see more such cases - and we have, in our locale. Why? In these hard economic times, isn't our community reducing its enforcement staff? Not yet, but we expect soon so. What our community does need is funding. Funding to continue to run a local government that is suspected of becoming corrupt and a worse, a police state.

How, you may ask, do your fevered brains connect all of these events - or imaginings - into one theory or cohesive set of principles? As we've said before, it is our purpose to bring together all of these concepts and reports into one single, cohesive unit that can be discussed and, perhaps, be recognized as a new, hidden form of truth that you need to be aware of.

You see, we believe a police state will bring stricter law enforcement - even if it is questionable as in the case of Dr. Gates. More law enforcement (not to mention the occasional judge or magistrate more than a little eager to adjudicate a case for more than legal principles) means more fines and more dollars for the community and their little courthouse and their staff - some of it through questionable means, some of it through any means necessary.

This is why Dr. Gates and his case are so important - to all of us, not just those of diverse race and backgrounds. If social injustice is allowed to continue for the sake of money - for the sake of dollars for economically-troubled communities and their governments - then there is no 'government'. Only a wolf pack hungry for more funds during times on which to prey on the 'ethnically challenged'. The ethically-challenged is pitted against the ethnically-challenged. This is why we sincerely hope that he and his attorneys file a case. It is important to you and us. And it needs to be addressed out in the open, in public and in court and in congress.

We should note that we have contacted our own Senators regarding our editor's similar situation. And they have failed to address us... Which is shocking, for the one has a reputation for always responding.

We know, we know, some think our position is raving.

Anyway, here are the links.

The Tragedy that is Dana Rohrabacher vs. the Promise that is Paul Ryan and More for Wednesday, May 20, 2009 (2nd posting for this date)

"WI: Rep. Ryan and Bruce Barr of IBT" image licensed under Creative Commons by aflcio2008

Yesterday, we hypothesized the potential (but unlikely) formation of a joint Israel-Palestine state and have a little bit more to say about it. In light of the successful Iran missile test-launch , wouldn't there be some advantage to the formation of a joint Palestine and Israel state? Would Iran dare attack such a state with nuclear weapons? Would not the rest of the Arabic and Muslim world howl in outrage if such an attack were to take place? We think they would...

A little bit on the "up-and-coming" US Rep Paul Ryan who appeared on MSNBC's "Morning Joe". The man gave a very smart and not-at-all boring analysis and assessment regarding the facts and data needed in developing a comprehensive US health care plan. Joe and crew instantly identified Mr. Ryan as an "up-and-coming" star in the Republican Party. Even though we were caught off guard by his "unexpected appearance" on this morning show, we think they are right. Our senior editor (who is a registered Democrat) is thinking of a sidebar link to Mr. Ryan's official website.

The tragedy that is Dana Rohrabacher. We witnessed Mr. Rohrabacher's arguments against global warming and climate change and putting a cap on gaseous emissions (Hardball with Chris Matthews on MSNBC). To paraphrase that lemonade commercial, "Dana, Dana, Dana. Whooot!". Mr. Rohrabacher made the rather ridiculous argument against temperature shifts on our planet (due to global warming) are comparable (???) by/to comparing them to temperature shifts on other planets (e.g., specifically Mars and Jupiter...). We have some data for Mr. R.. A Wolfram Alpha query gave us a surface temperature range of 12°C to 22°C (284° K to 297° K and/or 50°F to 76°F) for our home planet. We know the range is much wider and are making further inquiries and adjustments to the same to the search engine...

Now, for Mars, the results were - 91°C to - 3°C ( 181° K to 271°K and/or - 134°F to 30° C), oh yes, that seems almost livable!!! For Jupiter, we have to combine the Wolfram Alpha data (a range was not given to our query - perhaps because Jupiter has no surface) with the Nasa web page on Jupiter. The results were - 108° C to - 148° C ( - 163° F to - 234°F, sorry we didn't bother with degrees Kelvin here...). Those temperatures are not livable - at least not under our current scientific definitions and understanding.

Now Mr. R. may be very smart, but the comparisons just aren't fair nor scientific. Mr. R. would have done well to have presented his hard data during his argument (following the example of another Republican, Mr. Paul Ryan, above) but he did not. First of all - he is comparing our planet with planets that are respectively 166% more distant from the Sun (Mars) and about 545% more distant from the Sun (Jupiter). And, second - their atmospheres and environments (Mars and Jupiter) are completely different from ours. (Click on the hyperlinks to more data from Wolfram Alpha on this topic...).

Now we know Mr. Rohrabacher is a degreed individual, but we don't think he has a degree in atmospheric sciences. (Our apologies in advance if he does). Hey, how about it Mr. R.? Thinking of taking a few years off to further your education? We could all benefit from it. It would have been a great sucker coup if the politically brilliant Mr. Matthews could have presented these data points out of hand at the time...

That takes us to the Michael Steele speech. Could he, too, benefit from a little more education? Is that the real issue with the popularity problem with the Republican party? Messrs. Steele, Rohrabacher, Gingrich and their kind are all very highly intelligent people. Like Mr. Ryan, could they benefit from emphasizing more on the Big E vs. the Big I? We certainly hope so - we think we could all benefit.

This Sad, Grotesque and Terrible Dance

Image licensed under Creative Commons by billypalooza

This sad, grotesque and terrible dance we are witnessing in the ranks of the GOP, Donald Trump's business and ranks, torture, waterboarding ranks and other affairs. We couldn't belive the new segment introduced on MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Should the travails of Carrie Prejean (she's already got her own page in the Wikipedia, see the link...) really have been the first story for this new segment? And remember the failure of a previous new Keith segment -"Worst Person of the Week"? Seems that one got buried and so should this one - if the censors don't find reasons to take it off the air first.

And why is our favorite GOP Chairman (Michael Steele) running interference on another Republican - again - namely, Mitt Romney. We don't think Mr. Romney is one to be trifled with. Just look what happened when Mr. Steele trifled with Rush Limbaugh, the Democratic Party, abortion, hats and others. Remember the "hat flap"? The man is pure comedy genius. Now shouldn't he be running interference on Dick Cheney and his recent takes on torture, waterboarding and protecting the US? Isn't the man kind of going "off message" here? Would Mr. Steele score big points if he somehow stepped in and got Mr. Cheney off of the soapbox? Shouldn't he be defending his party? Mr. Steele, these are not insults or aspersions on your character, we love you.

We half-expect Sarah Palin to raise her head at one terrible point and sound off "Gaaaaahhhhh"! More comedy is what is needed here...in this sad and terrible dance of confusion and miscues and the like. Oh, that would be the perfect GOP Presidential ticket... The comedienne from Wasilla and the "hatmaster"! Oh, please! We're begging you! Three words: Pure. Comedy. Gold. Our senior editor (if he's still alive, would switch political parties just to vote for that ticket, he swears...) If weren't all such grotesquerie, it would be Pythonesque. However, the real soon-to-be-exposed hat master (or ringmaster - we expect) is Mr. Romney. And he will surely get his hat back in the ring. And that's a sobering thought.

And we are deeply concerned that Madame Pelosi may have seen some memos exposing the use of torture (which me mention again, Mr. Zelikow did proud by fighting the torture cause). We're not concerned about Ms. Pelosi, there must be a way out of this for her and her fellow Senators... They've got the memos, and they can use them. Next come the photos. What sad evidence will we have in those? We're desperately waiting for the findings on the Sheldon Whitehouse hearings. This could get bigger than Watergate, we're hoping, sort of... Our senior editor was around, and he remembers that one and believes this is much, much bigger. Hunter where are you when we need you the most? To quote the late, great Mr. Thompson it is "a sad and terrible spectacle"...and all bets are off. Res ipsa loquitor.

Backackwards

Backackwards: The rather unfortunate second-generation corruption of "bass-ackwards". Definition: When Michael Steele "wears his hat" (as seen on Thursday's Morning Joe on MSNBC) in re. party affiliation. We love Mr. Steele. He has to be a gift from God, he just has to be. Seth MacFarlane could just cut and paste his infamous off-key misstatements into Family Guy. Seth, you just have to do it... We're begging you. You could have Stewie following him around with the off-key tuba. On the other hand, if Mr. Steele were a musician, he could be Stewie with a tuba. Three words: comedy. Gold. Mine. Gee whiz...
