The Coming Cyberwar and The Failing Health of an Ill Kim Jong Il and More for Thursday, April 9, 2009

We're calling it griditration or gridthreat, and personally, we feel very intimidated by this "new" technological threat. As we also feel the same about other "new" threats the scientific community is just beginning to explore or understand. Will the new GM/Segway PUMA collaboration help address the issues with the birth/air pollution link and the issues of the uninsured? And, what is the real threat posed by the Conficker VirusWorm? It seems to be evolving but nobody seems to know what its ultimate evolutionary stage will be. Except, perhaps the creator(s) and could they be one in the same with the creator(s) of griditration or the gridthreat?

True, our best scientific and engineering minds might be working on powerful solutions to the gridthreat or griditration right now. But, will they have a solution in time? Like the Lawnmower Man, they are probably working against a terminal alarm clock. When the alarm trips, the power grid shuts off, just like it did in John Carpenter's Escape from New York. No more power. No more reading/ viewing this screen. Lights out...

Except this is no science fiction nor fantasy movie. This has to be perceived as a real threat. The Public Safety could be in grave danger if the power grid is shut down by some foreign power in the event of war or some other perceived crisis or affront. Hopefully, before that happens, the gridthreat will fall into the ocean of failure paralleling that of the recent N Korea rocket launch - errr, failure - not only that, but paralleling the apparently rapidly failing health of Kim Jong Il.

But, our best minds and leaders can't count on these threats toppling like a row of dominoes. Hopefully they've got the science and engineering and policy developed to counter these very dangerous threats to our safety and sovereignty. And its not just in the USA, some 103 countries are supposedly affected - or - virtually worldwide. As we have previously said in this publication and one of our sister publications, we'll know for sure when the power goes off or if this website suddenly and mysteriously disappears...
