EU Urges Calm, Mexico Shuts Down and More for Thursday, April 30, 2009

Please Note: We are taking the advice of Dr. Chan of the WHO under advisement. But we are also taking the advice of the EU not to panic. (Does anybody listen to Joe Biden anyway? Gee whiz...)

And Chrysler announces bankruptcy. We have been observing that train wreck for almost 30 years! It has been a strange and terrible spectacle (to quote the late Hunter S. Thompson...) watching them roll and tumble - for decades. Most train wrecks and car wrecks grind to a halt in a relatively short time. But management and labor have done quite a job in keeping it going. But, in our humble opinion, Mitsubishi (of course, the Wikipedia reports there was some controversy over possible slave labor, gee whiz...) should have taken them over, not Fiat.

Our Passions to Radio Shack, Passions About US Economy and More Public Passions for Wednesday, April 29, 2009

"7345 - Moscow - Bolotnaya Proshad - Children are the victims of adults' vices - Poverty " image licensed under Creative Commons by thisisbossi

OK, we've decreased our content, but our passions for our country and other issues seem to be growing. But, we want to say that we view these as our passions and not our grievances, complaints, woes and so on. We are trying to stay positive about the course of this nation and its inhabitants.

The falling economy, the pandemic, the killings in Mexico, waterboarding, torture do continue to be our passions and we are hoping that these things can be reversed. And soon, but it doesn't seem too likely. Some of these things are, of course, irreversible. Like the horrific loss of life in Mexico and the Narcowar. We are hoping that the killings can be slowed - if not stopped altogether. Mexico has enough problems with the influenza outbreak, poverty, the recent earthquake and the like. We share our passion for Mexico for one of our friends who has recently come to stay here in the USA. He has grandparents and other loved ones in Mexico - and we share his passions and concerns for them. If you are reading this, and you also have loved ones in Mexico, we share your passions and concerns for them also. If you have any reason to contact us regarding this, please feel free to do so.

We are very passionate about the political move by the enigmatic Senator Arlen Specter of yesterday. We fully realize that there are multiple political calculations (we call them specterlations) on all sides of this move. What we don't understand was the headlining of the link Obama welcomes Specter to Democratic Party and not the original story Veteran GOP Sen. Specter switches parties on MSNBC.com. Why is MSNBC (or NBC) so conspicuous at using the speculative (?) device Reductio ad Obamum? Do all roads lead to President Obama - has he truly become the Alpha and the Omega in the eyes of MSNBC/NBC? Or, have they become truly desperate?

Witness the desperate challenge by Keith Olbermann to Sean Hannity? We like Keith and Sean, but why press the waterboarding argument to such extremes? It is immoral and unethical for both to even consider using the technique of waterboarding on the other, even if its to demonstrate the fact that it is a form of torture - or not. We quote Wikipedia "Waterboarding is a form of torture...". Therefore, it is not only immoral and unethical to suggest the practice of it for this purpose, it is also illegal. We ask that Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Hannity cease and desist from this ridiculous distraction, even though we recognize their passion for it. We have ceased and desisted from watching their programs out of our passion for the abandonment of such a topic.

We are still holding out our hopes that the flu Pandemic just won't become such. If it truly were a Pandemic, we expected to have a thousand fatalities by today. Ten thousand next week. And a million or more after that. It just doesn't seem to be going to such extremes. But, we keep making fervent, frightened prayers that it doesn't go that way. As we mentioned previously, our senior editor lost an aunt (actually, she was a great-grandaunt) in the 1918 influenza pandemic.

Speaking of our senior editor, he too has been crushed by this economy. He has lost his passion for his own recovery from his own economic strife and has just about lost all hope. But, we are passionate for his recovery - even though he his stricken ill, grown weak and trodden under bone-crushing poverty, living well below the suggested $ 21,200/limit for a family of 4 suggested by those in authority. Which leads to our passion about the Radio Shack employee assaulting a customer. Our editors would never assault a customer, yet Radio Shack finds us unfit for employment. We are very passionate about the hiring of non-violent personnel. We urge you to contact them in the hope we can get them to hire more prudently.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/04/29/ap/strange/main4976998.shtml?tag=main_home_storiesBySection

We have many issues re. this assault:

1) Since when is it policy for Radio Shack to assault customers over a return?
2) WE have never assaulted a customer over a return, yet we can't even get a return phone call from Radio Shack for our job application. Why is this?
3) Why would Radio Shack prefer to hire violent offenders over non-violent personnel? We can't understand this.
4) Please do respond to these inquiries as we will be posting them on the internet.
Thank You.

Pandemic or Food Riots? For Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Yes, we know some of the media attention to the Pandemic is overblown, and we voted as such on CNN.com's website today. But, our senior editor did happen to lose an aunt during the 1918 flu pandemic - whom he was too young to know, and consequently never met. But the impact of the swine flu is very real, and pandemics present a very real issue of mass fatalities - sometimes in the millions. Supposedly, the 1918 pandemic took 25 million lives, maybe more, maybe less. We're hoping this flu mutates quickly into a non-lethal version (see the link below), and peters out with minimum loss of life. But, pointedly, Dr. Fukuda - in his amazingly boring public statement on the level 4 Pandemic - did not mention that possibility. Or was that simply left out?

Of course, as pointed out by
Jack Cafferty on CNN yesterday (sigh, we admit to actually watching Mr. Cafferty from time to time, out of shear boredom...) that 36,000 deaths/fatalities occur each year due to the flu out of an infection rate of some 200,000/annum. The point being, we guess, that the situation is serious, not dreadful. But then, we keep reviewing in our mind, Dr. Fukuda's utterly dreadful video presentation of yesterday regarding the level 4 alert. And we wonder, does the WHO know something we don't?

But, something else that really troubles us is the potential for food riots in the near term. Is the world actually facing a
$ 100 million (+ or -) shortfall in world food supplies? Will the pandemic balance out this problem? Or, what exactly should we be hoping for? Remember the news/media stories on food shortages before the global economy went bust? That story just didn't go away - it is still a very serious, real issue.

In light of these issues, we're ignoring the usual stuff about Madoff, Obama, the airplane buzzing the Statue of Liberty (haven't we heard enough about that one?...as a nation, are we really that fearful of another 2001-style attack).
